Culture and Inclusion at Bright Horizons
Bright Horizons is an organization made up of employees, children, and families from many cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. We are intentional about fostering a workplace where every individual feels valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. Our HEART principles—honesty, excellence, accountability, respect, and teamwork—are the foundation of our culture and reflect our unwavering belief that our people are the key to building and sustaining an organization that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the children, families, adult learners, and communities we serve. We are honored and proud to have a long track record of being named an Employer of Choice, including being named to the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune magazine 20 times.
Culture and Inclusion
In Our Classrooms
As early educators, we recognize both our responsibility to model inclusion for our young learners and our profound opportunity to make a real difference for the next generation.
- We’ve built our curriculum to create culturally authentic learning environments that celebrate and explore all cultures and experiences. We use a mirrors (exploring a child’s own identity) and windows (understanding and embracing others) approach to learning.
- Our teacher training includes developmentally appropriate curriculum practices to nurture all children in our classrooms.
- Our educator trainings and resource library include guidance to help teachers support and honor children of all abilities and needs.
In Our Workplaces
We believe it is our responsibility to create workplaces where every person is embraced and appreciated for their talents and accomplishments and where all have equal potential to grow careers.
- Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are open to all employees and are supported by leadership and empowered to give a voice to employees across the company.
- We build clear pathways for career development, through leadership training and development and we support and encourage upward career mobility in both our Early Children Education field operations and throughout our corporate Home Team.
- We offer our Horizons Teacher Degree Program — a first-of-its-kind offering in the early education field — by allowing employees to earn an associate and bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at no-cost and with no out-of-pocket expenses.
- Our Inclusion Steering Committee and Inclusion Council unite senior leaders and employees together to inform strategy for change and create accountability.
In Our Community
As an education and care provider, we proudly support the communities in which we work and live.
- We champion a culture of belonging and appreciation through our employee engagement programs, by being active members in the communities where we live and work, by supporting the organizations where our employees devote their volunteer time and through Better Together activities.
- We support our employees in advancing the mission of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children® to build Bright Spaces for at-risk children and families in homeless shelters and other community organizations that serve families in need. Through the Foundation, we extend our commitment beyond the workplace, creating safe, inspiring spaces for children and families in crisis and making a lasting difference in the communities where we live and work.
- We proudly stand with our many employees who support the Bright Horizons Employee Relief Fund which offers financial assistance to employees recovering from catastrophic events.
- Our college admissions and finance experts work with community organizations to support high school students pursuing their higher education dreams.
